Goal and Objectives

G-WADI is a global network under UNESCO’s program for Water and Development Information for Arid Lands. It was established in 2004 by the 15th session of the Intergovernmental Council of the International Hydrological Program (IHP).

The strategic objective of the G-WADI network is to strengthen the global capacity to manage the water resources of arid and semi-arid areas. Its primary aim is to build an effective global community through integration of selected existing material from networks, centers, organizations and individuals. The global technical secretariat for G-WADI is the International Center for Integrated Water Resources Management (ICIWRM). Its headquarter is at the U.S. Army Engineer Institute for Water Resources (IWR) in Virginia, USA.

RCWH Plan within the G-WADI (2017-2021) Phase

The RCWH plan for the period (2017-2021) is to strengthening the water harvesting component within the G-WADI strategic plan through the capacity development, research, and knowledge and information transfer activities. In order to transform the targeted goals and opportunities of the main activities into reality, the RCWH strategic plan that is set to go in line with the one for the G-WADI as explained below:

To strengthening the communication between the centers and institutions in the Arab and African region, with the same mandate for water and information development in the Arid Zone, by activating the web platform of communication
through the:

  •   Websites of G-WADI
  •    Websites of RCWH
  •    Websites of Arab and African G-WADI

 To build a solid platform for regional collaboration in the research area through:

  •  Joint research project
  • Exchange of experts
  • Periodic conferences
  • Regional workshops

 To consolidate the platform of the regional Knowledge and information transfer through:

  •  Regional annual training course
  • Expert meeting
  • Exchange of database
  • Exchange of experts, experiences, and knowledge
